“As people are all unique, I strongly feel that jewellery should also be unique. Unique, handmade jewellery forges a special bond between the maker and the wearer as well–I like to think of all of my pieces as children of sorts; I create a piece that goes on to collect the experiences of the wearer–it becomes more meaningful with time and wear like the body itself. In time, a part of the wearer’s spirit permeates it.
Metal and gemstones are fairly permanent materials–silver and gold are base elements that can’t be broken down further but the shape of them can be transformed–in fact the gold in your ring may have been once worn by Cleopatra as much of the precious metal currently on the market has been recycled many times over, with the addition of newly mined metal in the mix. I like that sense of eternal history–the metal and gemstones that I work with are ancient and hold the story of the earth and humanity within them. It’s a beautiful metaphor for the spirit and gives a sublime awareness of life and our place within history. “
